This is a major new landmark exhibition of national treasures from every State collecting institution of NSW. It features over 215 extaordinarily rare and significant art, objects, documents, photographs and curiosities - many important to Australia's history - which have been brought together for the first time to create a unique showcase of over 200 years of collecting in NSW.

With material from the Art Gallery of NSW, the Australian Museum, the Botanic Gardens Trust, the Historic Houses Trust of NSW, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Powerhouse Museum, the State Library of NSW and State Records NSW - much of it never seen or been on tour before - Great Collections is curated by Australian art history specialist, John McPhee and is an initiative of - and presented by - Museums & Galleries NSW.

Great Collections opens at the Campbelltown Arts Centre, Cnr Camden & Appin Roads, Campbelltown, on Friday 12 December where it will be on show until 18 January 2009.

The exhibition then tours to Tweed River Art Gallery (6 February – 15 March 2009), the Western Plains Cultural Centre (Dubbo, 3 April - 10 May 2009), the Albury LibraryMuseum and Albury Regional Gallery (29 May - 5 July 2009) and Ballarat Fine Art Gallery (24 July - 30 August 2009).

A fantastic show for the whole family and anyone interested in collecting, in art or in Australian history. This is a once-in-a-lifetime, must-see exhibition.
