This past January, Venerable Marut offered his first teaching in Australia. During his visit, he taught intensively for eight days on Yoga and happiness at Prana House, Bridge Yoga and Satyananda yoga ashram. Audiences grew with each teaching as word spread about his down-to-earth yet entertaining teaching style. Known for his unique ability to connect ancient Eastern traditions with contemporary Western life, Venerable Marut has returned to Australia to offer more valuable advice on living the good life. His teaching, “The Yoga of Developing a Good Heart” will be presented in person, as well as by webcast. The event is open to the public by donation only. The special evening begins at 8:30pm. Radical compassion is the focus of the Tibetan Buddhist techniques known as Lo Jong, which means “mind training.” However, in Tibet the location of the mind is placed at the heart. A less literal but more awakened translation for Lo Jong is “developing the good heart.” This practice attacks selfish instincts, transforms anger into an unconquerable force of love, and destroys the ill will people feel towards each other. Join Venerable Marut as he delivers a weapon of mass compassion. June 10th, 2009: The Yoga of Developing a Good heart Time: 8:30-10:00pm Location: Breathing Space Yoga Studio, Level 1 – 217 Chapel Street, Prahran, Vic, Melways Ref: 2L-J11 Cost: By donation only. About Venerable Marut Entertaining and down-to-earth, American monk Venerable Sumati Marut is ordained in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. He is the founder and Spiritual Director of the Asian Classics Institute of Los Angeles (ACI-LA), which offers a full schedule of ongoing classes in Tibetan Buddhism, guided meditation and yoga at its home, the Mahasukha Center. In addition to teaching all over the world, Venerable Marut also serves as a founding Board member of the Yoga Studies Institute and as the Spiritual Director of the Asian Classics Institute Cape Ann Inc, Massachusetts (ACI-Cape Ann Inc). As a Ph.D. and Professor of Comparative Religions, he taught for over 20 years at Barnard College, Columbia University and at the University of California-Riverside, where he is Professor Emeritus of Religious Studies. He is a Sanskrit scholar and author of several books. Venerable Marut’s personal understanding of our modern Western lifestyle unites with his extensive scriptural knowledge of authentic South Asian traditions to create spiritual teachings relevant to all. Venerable Marut uses cultural signposts, pop references, and humour to help remove cross-cultural hurdles and make even the most esoteric elements of Eastern philosophy work as tools for immediate transformation. The path to enlightenment has never been so welcoming. lamamarut.org aci-la.org/mg-podcasts.html yogastudiesinstitute.org # # # |
