Edmonton Energy vs. Yamhill Highflyers
 
The fastest game in town is coming to SAIT. The Edmonton Energy of the International Basketball League (IBL) will host the Yamhill Highflyers (Oregon) at SAIT’s Main Gym on Monday, June 8th at 7:15pm. This event is a great opportunity for SAIT to showcase their facilities prior to hosting the 2010 CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championships next March.
 
IBL basketball is a high-scoring, fast-paced affair, averaging an exciting 127 points per game. The game appeals to more than just the basketball purists. Affordable tickets and player interaction with fans make IBL games a family-friendly event.
 
Averaging over 150 points per game, the Edmonton Energy are certainly living up to their name after disposing of the much-touted Snohomish Explosion last weekend.  After winning three straight games, the Energy is on a roll. With 8-2 record, the Energy is sitting in 1st place in the West ahead of the Tacoma Tide (7-2), Los Angeles Lightning (8-3) and the Seattle Mountaineers (8-5).
 
The Yamhill Highflyers are Yamhill County, Oregon’s first professional sports franchise and are making their first trip into Canada. “Our official slogan for the Highflyers 2009 campaign is ‘Yamhill vs. the World’, says Highflyers General Manager, Eric Bailey.  The slogan reflects the truly international nature of the Highflyers schedule, including games against teams from China, Japan, and Canada.
 
Beginning June 5th, the Energy is on the road against the Highflyers in exhibition games in Leduc (June 5th), Red Deer (June 6th), Calgary (June 8th) and Lethbridge (June 9th).  This tour will bring the electricity of the Energy and the IBL’s fast-paced game to a wider audience across the province.
 
Tickets: $10 at SAIT Wellness Centre, Sobeys on SAIT Campus and at the door on game night.
