Full details: A small farm conservation field day will be held by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 to demonstrate efficient and environmentally friendly equipment suitable for small farming operations. The field day will take place at Cherta Farms, 8260 E. American Avenue, Del Rey, California from 8:30a.m.-12noon. Several local farm implement dealers will be showcasing equipment that promotes greater conservation, such as a multi-task rotor tiller, mower shredder, seed planter, end-row cultivator, boom sprayer, and more. Attendees will also receive information about how to use water and nutrients more efficiently, plus learn environmentally friendly ways to use pesticides and control dust. Guest speakers include NRCS District Conservationist David Durham, Soil Scientist Edd Russell, and Soil Conservationist Sam Vang. Fresno radio station KBIF-AM will be broadcasting live from the event, conducting interviews with growers and community-based organizations. Pesticide control advisors attending the event can receive three hours of continuing education credit. Equipment will be provided by Kuckenbecker Tractor Company, Bear Cat Chippers, Fresno Farm Equipment Co., Agri-Valley Irrigation Co., D&S Ag Designs, Solex Corporation, Domries Enterprises, and Rhino/Joper Distributing Co. The field day is being funded by a grant from NRCS, an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Co-sponsors of the event include Cherta Farms Inc., Chia Lee Farms, Tulare County Resource Conservation District, San Joaquin Valley Resource Conservation & Development Council, the Hmong American Community organization, and Lao Family Community Inc. NRCS provides leadership to help private landowners maintain and improve natural resources and the environment. The agency offers technical and financial assistance to carry out conservation projects that will protect soil, water, air, plants, and animals on private land. |
