Goethe- BLOCKBUSTERS are back!

In addition to our yearly festival of new German films German Currents (look forward to this fall !), we are bringing back BLOCKBUSTERS showcasing favorites of ours, which have not seen the exposure they deserve.

From the hilariously funny "Wer frueher stirbt..." to David Kross’ (The Reader) debut film "Knallhart" to Christian Petzold’s (The State I’m In, Wolfsburg) latest film "Yella", this year’s BLOCKBUSTERS, once again, present an exquisite mix of genres, high entertainment value and “ an invaluable samplers of some of the most innovative and thoughtful cinema coming out of Europe today”

Dir. Detlev Buck, 2006, 99 min, digital, German with English subtitles

When Miriam splits up with her wealthy lover, she and her 15-year-old son Michael have to move from posh Zehlendorf to run-down Berlin-Neukölln. The boy finds friends in his new neighborhood, but at school he is victimized by Errol and his gang. KNALLHART put David Kross (THE READER) on the map as one of Germany’s most solid young actors.

WER FRUEHER STIRBT IST LAENGER TOT (Grave Decisions)

Dir. Marcus Hausham Rosenmüller, 102 min., 2006, German with English subtitles

Monday June 22 @ 7:00 p.m.

YELLA

Dir. Christian Petzold, 88 min., 2007, digital, German with English subtitles

EIN FREUND VON MIR

Dir. Sebastian Schipper, 2006, 86 min., digital, German with English subtitles

Despite his successful career at a car insurance company, Karl (Daniel Bruhl) is unfulfilled by life. He meets Hans (Jurgen Vogel) whose intrinsic happiness and carefree nature is incomprehensible to Karl. It’s the beginning of an unlikely friendship.

PING PONG Dir. Matthias Luthardt, 2006, 89 min, digital, German with English subtitles

16-year-old Paul arrives unannounced at his uncle’s house. He is met by an idyllic family scene which has far less substance than it would first appear. The well-rehearsed act is quickly disrupted by the newcomer’s arrival.
