Full details: The King Harbor Yacht Club sponsors its Seventeenth Annual Christmas Boat Parade. The theme is "Holiday for Heroes". This year we will be honoring our local heroes who include the Medal of Valor winners of Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan as well as two other local heroes who happen to be members of King Harbor Yacht Club. They are Deborah Hansen, who was one of the first on scene at the deadly helicopter crash in Catalina. Deborah is a Flight Attendant for American Airlines. When she saw the helicopter coming down all of her emergency training automatically kicked into high gear and she was able to pull out three people from the burning wreckage. Our other hero is Staff Commodore Dr. Bill Webster. While enjoying his annual competition of the 36th Annual Santa Barbara to King Harbor Race, Bill just happened to hear a May Day call from another race boat as two of their crew members had fallen overboard and they were unable to pick up one person. Bill and his crew realized they were somewhat near the accident site and made their way over and were able to rescue the victim who had been in the chilly water almost 20 minutes just before dark. Both of these heroes along with the other deserve our special recognition for their selfless, life saving acts. We encourage everyone to come and enjoy an evening at King Harbor. If you are interested in entering your boat please contact King Harbor Yacht Club. All proceeds will benefit the Let's Go Fishing Foundation and King Harbor Youth Foundation.
