The first of a two-part series on aging and the workplace, this workshop covers issues faced by employees and the intricacies of Medicare. The second workshop on August 28, 2008 focuses on the legal aspects of aging such as family trusts and living wills. These workshops provide HR and managers with tools and techniques to help employees navigate the maze of information and resources. For more information, see our Web site www.nchra.org.

This workshop provides HR professionals with insight into the issues that employees face when caring for an aging parent, sibling or spouse, or perhaps even themselves. We will cover the availability of community resources, long-term planning, dealing with chronic illness and how to refer people for services.

Further, there will be a discussion of Medicare and Medical and what these programs do and do not cover in terms of care for seniors. You'll learn:

-The basic parts to Federal Medicare: Part A Part B, Part C, Part D
-The purpose of Medicare Supplements and how they help in containing the cost of medical treatment
-The difference between traditional supplements and Medicare Advantage
-The myths around skilled nursing home care & home care

Speakers: Donna Schempp, LCSW, is the program director at Family Caregiver Alliance (FCA). FCA is a non profit organization that helps caregivers to get respite and support for their caregiving roles. FCA serves people with chronic illnesses, such as Alzheimer's Disease, MS, Parkinson's, Stroke, etc as well as caregivers of frail elders.
