Full details:
The dog days of summer are still ahead, but Boise already is heating up. If you’re looking for a way to chill out with Dad on Father’s Day, then take him to the Linen Building Sunday Market, “The Coolest Market in the Treasure Valley.” Held every third Sunday of the month at the Linen Building (1402 W. Grove St. in Downtown Boise’s Linen District), the Linen Building Sunday Market is an indoor, climate-controlled market showcasing the finest locally-made arts and crafts, jewelry, clothing and food. The Father’s Day Sunday Market runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 21. Admission to this fun, family-friendly event is free. There’s something for everyone inside the Linen Building. The kids can reel in prizes in the fishing derby, where they will attempt to hook bags filled with goodies. The wee ones also will get a kick out of the inventive balloon fashions twisted by TrICA’s Jon Swarthout and the old-school 1975 black-and-white photo booth where they can capture Father’s Day memories with Dad. For more info on TrICA, visit www.tricarts.org. After perusing the wares of the two dozen Creators on the main floor, Mom and Dad can cool off on the mezzanine with a cold beer or refreshing mimosa from Jenny’s Lunch Line and Metro Gourmet Catering Company. The whole gang can enjoy freshly-squeezed juice, artisanal sandwiches, fresh fruit salad, homemade quiches and jumbo peanut butter and milk chocolate cookies made with local, organic ingredients. For more info, visit www.jennyslunchline.com and www.metrogourmetboise.com. If your lips are in the mood for something hot, head out to the sidewalk for sweet and spicy barbecue with all the fixins from Blue Cow BBQ. Live music will be provided by Michaelray Cox, a veteran touring guitarist who delivers a gumbo of blues, bottleneck, folk, bluegrass and country. Cox has played with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Jackson Browne and others and is a regular on stage around Boise. For more info, visit www.myspace.com/mrcmercy. A portion of Sunday Market proceeds are donated back to the community. Recipients have included the Idaho Foodbank and Boise Rescue Mission. To date, more than 450 meals have been served to Treasure Valley residents with market donations. “These donations would not happen without the public’s support of the market,” said Linen Building Owner David Hale. “Because Boise participates, we’re able to donate.” For questions or more information, contact the Linen Building at 385-0111 or info@thelinenbuilding.com. Visit www.thelinenbuilding.com and interact with the Linen Building on Twitter, Facebook and MySpace.
