More than 900 teenage poets, representing 50 cities and towns across the United States will descend on Chicago, Illinois from Tuesday, July 14th to Sunday, July 19th to participate in the spectacular, internationally renowned, 12th Annual Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam Fest. 

Brave New Voices is the International Youth Poetry Slam exclusively for teenagers 13-19 years old.  Throughout the year, participants compete in local events and poetry slams to win one of six spots in representing their city at Brave New Voices in July.  The Slam consists of twenty quarter-final-bouts featuring fifty teams, four semi-final-bouts featuring sixteen teams and finally the Grand Slam Finals at the Chicago Theatre which feature four teams. Cities attending this year include San Francisco, Denver, St Louis, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Philadelphia, Kansas City, New Orleans, Cleveland, Compton, Ann Arbor, Miami, Honolulu, Washington D.C., Milwaukee, Houston, New York City and many more.  The finals will be hosted by Kevin Coval. 

Two additional key events of the festival include “Brave New Voices Speak Green” presented in partnership The Redford Center and the US Green Building Council and “Brave New Voices Bringing the Noise” featuring performances from Saul Williams, Typical Cats, Alix Olson and many more.  Other festival VIP’s include Common, Beau Sia, Kevin Covall, Marc Bamuthi Joseph, The Cool Kids, and Lemon Anderson who will participate in workshops, judging and open mics throughout the week.
