This evening, author and Episcopalian priest Cynthia Bourgeault will draw from the Gospels and recently discovered ancient Christian documents (primarily the Gospel of Thomas) to reveal a fresh new understanding of Jesus and his teaching. We will learn about Jesus as a teacher of radical wisdom whose aim was nothing less then the transformation of consciousness, and, in the conversational and experiential style of Near Eastern teaching, we will explore: Jesus’ teachings on kenosis (“self-emptying”) and compassion, what true abundance is, and unified being. Cynthia will also introduce us to transformational practices from the Christian contemplative tradition, including centering prayer, lectio divina, and chanting.

Note: This course is a more in-depth exploration of themes covered in “The Wisdom Jesus” workshop taught the previous summer.
