On November 12, CAMARADAS El Barrio, the worker's public house/music and gallery space, again serves up SPANGLISH FLY, New York City’s only band dedicated to reviving and renewing the music style created by the late Joe Cuba, the Father of Latin Boogaloo. SPANGLISH FLY mixes up mambo and Motown to make Latin soul, and brings it all back home to El Barrio, where boogaloo was born in the 1960’s. Their appearances at CAMARADAS over the last few months showed them to be equal to the task, as they breathed new life into boogaloo classics like “Bang Bang” and “Micaela.” So much so that starting December they will be installed in the treasured “First Thursdays” slot of each month for CAMARADAS.  First, one more show for them to showcase their newest boogaloo arrangement, of the Motown classic, “I Heard it Through the Grapevine”.  Other selections from their upcoming CD, including hot Latin versions of “Fever” and “Time is On My Side,” plus original compositions. “They will make you dance for sure,” said REmezcla.com, the Latino culture and events guide, in a recent review. At their Camaradas shows, Latin boogaloo virgins can get their hips in gear with a free dance lesson from the band, or just sit it out – if they manage – with some tapas with a Puerto Rican flair and a selection from the extensive wine and beer list at Camaradas.
