From a modern hot pink sequined tree to an antique version made of German goose feathers, holiday decorations will prove to be as unique as Cleveland’s near west side neighborhood hosting the first Ohio City Christmas Walk on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Far more than the halls will be decked at six homes that will be open to ticket holders in an easily walkable corner of Ohio City, between West 28th and West 30th Streets on Bridge, Jay and Fulton Avenues.

“The range of décor seems to underscore the many styles that come together in Ohio City, and we want tour goers to enjoy surprises in store for them behind these historic facades,” said Sharon Swagger, co-chair of the Christmas Walk and chair of the Heritage Committee of Ohio City Near West Development Corp (OCNW).  “We invite guests to come early and stay late in order to sample any number of our great restaurants,” added Swagger, an OCNW board member.

“By offering an affordable event to jumpstart the holidays, we believe that Ohio City’s decades’ long track record of spring home tours and more recent summer garden tours lays the groundwork for visitors and neighbors to celebrate the season with us,” said Julie Kurtock, co-chair of the Christmas Walk and an OCNW board member.

Stops include a complimentary refreshment stop in a mansion featured on a network television show, a thoroughly modern interpretation of a Victorian Italianate, a touch of Sweden with its charming, traditional customs, a great home with a Great Room in a seamless new addition, plus two workman’s cottages, one where antiques provide a step back in time and another with a picture-perfect renovation, complete with a cathedral ceiling to accommodate a towering tree.

Advance ticket purchases on line at ocnw.org are $18 for individuals and $32 for couples or $20 for individuals and $35 for couples the day of the event. All proceeds will go to the Ohio City Near West Development Corp.

Ticket pickup and sales will begin one hour before the event at Ohio City Blooms, 1909 West 25th Street, Cleveland, to allow tourgoers time to start the walk on their own after having dinner at Ohio City restaurants. Parking is available in the lot behind Ohio City Blooms’ rear entrance and may be used for the evening or during ticket pickup.  For additional information, please call Ben Trimble at (216) 781-3222 (Ext. 5) or visit ocnw.org or ohiocity.com
