Full details: The AKA Convention is an annual five day gathering of kite enthusiasts, artists, and competitors. With roughly 500 members in attendance, the Convention ranks as one of the largest kite gatherings in the world. The convention will feature kite making competitions, kite flying competitions, and workshops dealing with all aspects of kiting. In addtion, extremely large kites including a 130 ft Octopus and the Megaflag kite (one of the three largest in the world at 10,000 sq ft!) will be flown. All flying activities will be held at Boyds Bear Country (www.boydsbearcountry.com), which is across the road from the Eisenhower Hotel. There will be a shuttle from the hotel to the fields for those wanting or needing it. Saturday will feature the final day of competitions, as well as flight demonstrations by many of the top kite fliers in the world. All of the kite flying competitons are free to the public. Attendance at the convention workshops, banquets. or auction is open only to members of the American Kitefliers Association (AKA). You can join on-site however, or by going to the AKA website (http://www.aka.kite.org).
